I’m shocked, shocked I tell you, that one of the members of Dow Jones‘ “editorial independence board” charged to make sure that incoming Wall Street Journal owner Rupert Murdoch keeps out of the editorial policy at the Journal turns out to run a foundation which has received a pledge of $2.5 million from Murdoch’s News Corp.
I’m absolutely sure that it’s just a coincidence and equally sure that this in no way means that Murdoch will ignore his pledge to not interfere with the editorial independence of the Journal. Why, to think otherwise would be to think that Murdoch would lie about being hands-off with the journalism at the WSJ. I mean, sure, he made similar pledges when he bought the New York Post and other newspapers and then broke his word, but you can’t hold a man’s past actions against him…can you?
Would a bribe of a measly $2.5 million really be a problem for a man willing to spend $5 BILLION to get his slimy hands on a prestige property? That’s chump change for a world-class scumbag like Rupert Murdoch.
It’s going to be fun to watch Murdoch lie his way out of this. Let’s face it, in George Bush’s World, nothing on Heaven or Earth is going to stop this plutocratic prick from getting his way, but it’ll be entertaining to watch him lie to us all in a desperate to make us believe the unbelievable. They truly do think we’re all stupid, you know. Since we keep letting them get away with their bullshit, I guess we are, come to think of it. Oh well, it was a nice little world we had going here, you know, back when we thought that our interests made a difference to anyone.
